General Doula FAQs
A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period. I don’t replace medical staff. My role is to support you so you feel calm, informed, and held throughout your journey.
Absolutely. I support births in hospitals, birth centres, and at home. I work alongside midwives and doctors respectfully and professionally, helping you understand your options and feel confident communicating your wishes.
My birth doula support is completely client-led. I come with no personal agenda about how you should give birth. Whether you’re planning a home birth, hospital birth, epidural, caesarean, or you’re still undecided, my role is to support your choices with evidence-based information, calm presence, and compassionate care.
No. I work with your partner, not instead of them. I help partners feel confident, involved, and supported offering guidance, reassurance, and practical ways they can support you
My doula support is inclusive and respectful of all beliefs. I offer optional faith-based support, including Christian hypnobirthing and prayer, only if it aligns with your values. There is no expectation or pressure either way.

Yes, I am a fully trained hypnobirthing (https://www.abiyamodoula.com/hypnobirthing)teacher. My sessions focus on calm, confidence, and understanding the physiology of birth helping you feel prepared both mentally and emotionally.
What areas do you cover?
I support families across East, Central, North and some parts of South London, Essex, and Hertfordshire. If you’re unsure whether I can support your area, feel free to get in touch.
To ensure fairness and availability for all families, I can provisionally hold a provisional booking for up to 4 working days following our initial consultation.
During this time, I encourage you to take space to reflect, ask any follow-up questions, and decide whether my support feels like the right fit for you. After the 4 working days, the date may be released and offered to another family if a booking has not been confirmed.
Once the deposit is received and the contract is signed, your booking is fully secured.
